Commonwealth Day Service 2019
The Abbey once again hosted the annual Commonwealth Day Service on Monday 11th March. Her Majesty The Queen, as Head of the Commonwealth, was joined by other members of the Royal Family, including the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke of York at the service which marked the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Commonwealth. It is the largest inter-faith celebration in the UK.
Also in attendance were the Prime Minister, Mrs Teresa May, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, High Commissioners, Ambassadors, Commonwealth dignitaries and approximately 700 UK school children.
The Service featured a mix of testimonies, readings and musical performances from talented artists, including Alfie Boe and Clean Bandit, and reflected the 2019 Commonwealth theme of "a Connected Commonwealth".
